Grizzlies-Trail Blazers game postponed due to COVID-19

Jan. 20 (UPI) — Wednesday night’s game between the Memphis Grizzlies and Portland Trail Blazers has been postponed in accordance with the league’s COVID-19 protocols, the NBA announced.

Due to ongoing contact tracing within the Grizzlies organization, the team didn’t have the league-required eight available players to move forward with the game.

The Grizzlies-Trail Blazers matchup becomes the 16th NBA game to be pushed back this season due to the coronavirus. It is the second time that Memphis has been impacted after its Jan. 15 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves also was postponed.

The Grizzlies last played on Monday against the Phoenix Suns. Memphis earned a 108-104 win over Phoenix to move to 7-6 this season.

Portland also played on Monday, suffering a 125-104 loss to the San Antonio Spurs. The Trail Blazers have an 8-6 record in the 2020-21 campaign.

The Trail Blazers and Grizzlies are scheduled to meet again Friday. It remains unclear whether Memphis will be able to clear the league’s health and safety protocols in time to compete.
